Mural painted for The Phoenix Pastificio in Berkeley. 1999
Mural size approximately 45 feet by 14 feet
Painted in collaboration with Anandamayi Arnold

For this mural, we incorporated the pilars that were already structurally a part of the wall, and painted on the trompe l'oiel arches. This is an important first observation which should be stated because we have been approached by people who comment "Oh, so you painted the mural in the arches!"  This is of course a lovely complement that we must have successfully incorporated the arches with the architecture of the space, but we indeed painted the arches themselves, not just the scene in the arches.

In keeping with our first mural for the Phoenix Pastificio, the landscape is an appropriate cross between Californian and Tuscan landscape.  The lanscape features relevant agriculture such as wheat, grapes, olives, and a lemon bush.  We included the Spinach cat, a heard of goats, a native California Toad, a friend for the paper mache rabbit customer, and a peahen and chick.
