Paper party hats and masks by Anandamayi Arnold and Aimee Baldwin
| Our
Job
Through An Entertaining Company, of Santa Rosa, CA, we provided hats and masks for the guests of the anual company party of IDEO. The theme of the party was a "Renaissance Masquerade". Our job was to provide enough of either one paper party hat or mask for each of the 200 guests to wear and take home, and present it as a craft activity for the guests to participate in during the evening. |

Production
Process
We both designed original paper hat and paper mask patterns. Many of these were based on paintings and images of hats and masks of traditional Commedia del'Arte, and Carnival of Venice. The colors of the supplies (ribbons, feathers, paper) were jewel tones, to match the decoration theme arranged by An Entertaining Company. We completed half of the hats and masks to give inspiration to guests and for those who may not want to spend a long time to complete their own item. We spent weeks trying new decorating ideas and finding out what craft supplies we would need more of for guests to use during the party. Even cutting ribbon was time consuming because we needed enough for 100 masks. We also prepared the remaining half for guests to decorate as they please, by cutting out patterns, and doing some basic assembling. |
| At
the Event
We brought crafts supplies and set up a room of the Kohl Mansion in Berlingame, CA, where the party was held, so guests could sit down and use feathers, artificial flowers, decorative papers, glitter, and ribbons to decorate their own hat or mask. While the party was in progress, we assitsted guests with their creations and managing the many craft supplies. Many people were eager to be able to decorate their own item, watch what their friends made, and have an opportunity to meet new people. Everyone was able to take home something of their own at the end of the evening. |
