We invite individuals of repute & manners, human or otherwise, to join us. We will meet at half past one in the afternoon in Martin Luther King Park by the Downtown Berkeley Farmer's Market, whence we shall courteously and splendiferously process west along the sidewalk of Addison Street to a grand potluck picnic in Strawberry Creek Park. Merrymaking will continue until dark. Festive attire is requested. Musical instruments and decorative fandangles are appreciated. |

We are not sure how long we will take to complete our procession. Where Procession Starting Location: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park Martin Luther King Park is located in downtown Berkeley on Center Street between M.L.King Jr. Way and Milvia. It is about 6 blocks (just over half a mile) south-west of the North Berkeley BART station. another link to internet map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&output=html&q=strawberry+creek+park&zoom=1# Parking in the downtown area is difficult or expensive. We recommend using BART, carpooling, or some combination. If you need to find more people to coordinate carpools, call Anandamayi, or Aimee or email Aimee at nightcritterart@yahoo.com. Processing On the sidewalk of Addison St.: from Martin Luther King Jr Way to Bonar Street The total walking distance is just under 1 mile and has no hills. We do not have any parade permit from the city, therefore we must observe polite and lawful pedestrian behavior: -stay on sidewalks -cross streets only in crosswalks -follow traffic signals -do not block the sidewalk as to prevent any other pedestrian use or passage on the sidewalk There will be a couple of little wagon/carts to carry food items during the procession, and it will be possible to drop off food at the park prior to the procession after 12 noon. If you bring your canine friends, please remember that law requires dogs to be on 6 foot leash when off private property. Festive Attire Wear whatever clothing you feel is appropriate to participate in this spectacle: funny hats, bright colors, costumes, vintage fashions, ethnic clothing, ties, sequins, frills, other people's clothes (with their permission of course). hint: not your average street clothing. It should be comfortable to walk in if you are coming for the walking park, and should be comfortable to eat lots of food in if you are coming for the potluck part. A few hats will be provided for those who might need some extra personal adornment. The weather in Berkeley is always variable during the course of a single day. Remember your sunscreen and your jackets. Musical Instruments Feel free to bring musical instruments to play during the walk or in the park. We are not allowed to have loud, or amplified music. Decorative Fandangles What parade is complete without the fandangles? flags, wands, banners, parasols, fans, bubbles, small floats and whatever else you can carry/drag down the sidewalk without being a hazard to yourself or others. Possum Trash will also be able to provide a few extra fandangles to those who are unable to bring their own. |

Potluck-Picnic We have reserved the two picnic areas of Strawberry Creek Park and will use the grassy area in the park by Addison Street. We do not have exclusive use of the park, and therefore will share the space with whom ever comes to the park. Bring food and drinks that you like to eat. There will be vegans, vegetarians, omnivores and those with certain food allergies attending. It would be helpful to bring a note indicating ingredients to place by your food to share. There is no guarantee that we will be able to have a grill, even though there is a grill located at the picnic areas of the park. If the fire rating on the day of the picnic is "high-fire-danger", we are not allowed to have any open flames. Possum Trash aims to eliminate junk to put in landfill, therefore we request people bring reusable cups, dishes and cutlery if possible (or at least compostable paper plates and cups, and potato starch utensils). Some dishware will be provided by Possum Trash, but there will not be enough for everyone. Consumption of alcohol in public areas (such as on the sidewalk or in the park) is illegal. There will be a couple of little wagons/carts to carry food items during the procession, and it will be possible to drop off food and other items after 12 noon at the park, prior to the procession. We have a croquet set for six players. Feel free to bring additional croquet sets or other games and amusements. |
